Malena Zamfirova made history in Bulgarian snowboarding by reaching her first European Cup final in alpine snowboarding in Bansko. The 15-year-old national athlete finished second in the parallel giant slalom final, losing to Aurel Monsen (Canada), and confirmed her excellent form, which was evident during the FIS Snowboard World Cup held in Bansko on January 18-19.
On Tuesday, Zamfirova posted the fourth-best time in the qualifications. She then easily eliminated three competitors before reaching the big final. Bulgarian Aglika Georgieva finished 25th, placing her in the top 30.
Among the men, the best result for Bulgaria came from Kristian Georgiev, who finished seventh overall.
The winner on Tuesday was Christoph Karner (Germany), who defeated Yannik Angenend (Austria) in the big final.
The award ceremony was held by the Mayor of Bansko, Stoycho Banenski, and Bansko Ski Area Concessionaire Yulen AD Executive Director Maya Hristoskova. A total of 91 snowboarders from 19 nations took part in the event. The European Cup continues on Wednesday with another parallel giant slalom in Bansko.
