Minister of Agriculture and Food Georgi Tahov will participate in the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council in Brussels on Monday, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food said.

The meeting will hold an open debate on the European Commission's communication "A Vision for Agriculture and Food – Shaping together an attractive farming and agri-food sector for future generations". The Ministers will also discuss the future of the Common Fisheries Policy, the Ministry of Agriculture informed.

At its meeting on March 19, the government approved Bulgaria's position for the upcoming meeting of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council on March 24. Bulgaria's position is that when considering the future development of policies in the EU, it is important to preserve the successful instruments of the Common Agricultural Policy, such as direct payments and coupled support with financing, which should reflect the increased needs arising from the current development of the political and economic situation. This country's position is that it is necessary to work towards achieving equalization in the levels of direct payments so that farmers in the EU can be equal and competitive, the government press service said.
