The Ankara Provincial Government has extended the ban on public gatherings, rallies and demonstrations until April 1, Turkish state television said on Tuesday.

The ban was initially imposed by the Ankara authorities on March 21 and was set to expire on March 25. The regional governments of Istanbul and Izmir have also imposed similar bans on their territories.

Despite the bans, thousands of people continue to protest every night against the arrest of the ousted and detained Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu.
