The weather in the mountains on Monday is clear, but very icy and cold, said the Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) of the Bulgarian Red Cross. The temperature is between -10C and minus -12C.

The MRS advised caution due to a hard-packed snow cover and urged tourists to wear snow shoes.

The snow cover is very hard and caution must be taken, tourists must move with crampons, the MSS also indicated.

On Sunday, the MRS assisted tourists on a lift in Sopot, Central Bulgaria, after the lift stopped working in the afternoon, but by the time they arrived the lift was up and running again.  The biggest concern in this case was that the temperatures were low.

The weather in the mountains will be mostly sunny on Monday, with scattered medium and high clouds over Western Bulgaria, and a light to moderate east-northeasterly wind. Highs: -1 at 1,200m, -7 at 2,000m, said the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology announced.
