site.btaNational Polytechnic Museum to Host Photographic Exhibition of Landmark Buildings in Sofia

The National Polytechnic Museum in Sofia will host a new photography exhibition titled Sofia, Caught in Time from September 17, the Museum said on Monday.

The exhibition will present photographs of some of the most emblematic buildings in Sofia, built in the post-Liberation period and surviving to this day. It was created by photographer and journalist Elina Ninova, who noted that architectural monuments from previous eras have not been left out, such as the Saint Sophia Church, which gave the city its name.

Ninova's work highlights the variety of architectural styles represented in the city. Of particular interest are the images of the objects combining European styles with typically Bulgarian and neo-Byzantine elements. "The buildings created in the period from the Liberation to the 1940s remain unsurpassed in their diversity and lavish facade decoration", said the Museum.

Elina Ninova's projects and exhibitions have been shown in the Bulgarian Embassy in Washington, the Bulgarian Cultural Centre in Budapest, in a private gallery in Bratislava, at the Bulgarian Art Festival in Toronto, Canada, and many more venues. Her photographs have also been published and have won monthly awards in Czechia.
