More than 5,000 residents of the town of Omurtag are suffering water shortages again, Yavor Milanov, Manager of the Targovishte Water and Sewerage Company, told BTA on Thursday. The town's water rationing started in the 1970s and ended only in 2023.

Now water is available  from 6 am to 9 am and from 4:30 pm to 9 pm.

A report by Magdalena Slavova from the civil association Water for Omurtag said water supply from the Yastrebino dam and from the water source near the village of Kipilovo stopped due to a power outage along the two water supply lines.

Slavova said the Kipilovo power outage started on December 23. Multiple power outages have been reported on the Yastrebino water supply system since December 26. She said that after sending a complaint, there was an immediate reaction from the management of Energo-Pro Varna EAD. Board Chairman Angel Angelov contacted them and scheduled a meeting to sort things out.

Since December 26, the Targovishte Water and Sewerage Company has been inspecting the power lines that feed the Yastrebino and Kipilovo water supply systems. Milanov said the intermediate pump station has been without electricity for more than a week, although there are no downed power lines.
