A man from Turkmenistan was arrested while attempting to exchange fake US dollars, the Regional Directorate of Interior in Haskovo said on Thursday. On December 31, the police in that southern town was alerted that a man was trying to exchange USD 20,000 in apparently counterfeit bills.

The 59-year-old man with an address registration in Plovdiv and permanent resident status in Bulgaria was arrested and is subject to pre-trial proceedings, the police said.
