site.btaFrancesco Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur to Be Staged at Sofia Opera in Honour of Raina Kabaivanska’s 90th Anniversary
The opera Adriana Lecouvreur will be performed at the Sofia Opera and Ballet House on January 17, 18, and 19 on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Bulgarian opera prima Raina Kabaivanska.
The performances will feature singers from Kabaivanska’s school at New Bulgarian University, including Vittoria Yeo, Veronica Simeoni, Sofia Soloviy, Giuseppe Infantino, and Hae Kang, alongside Sofia Opera soloists Gabriela Georgieva, Gergana Rusekova, Kostadin Andreev, and Ventseslav Anastasov.
The production team includes: Francesco Rosa (conductor), Julia Krusteva (director), Alfredo Troisi (set designer), Lyudmila Ilieva (choreographer), Violeta Dimitrova (choir conductor).
Adriana Lecouvreur has not been performed at the Sofia Opera and Ballet since the 1980s.
Francesco Cilea composed the opera with a libretto by Arturo Colautti, based on the play by Eugene Scribe and Ernest Legouve. The opera premiered in 1902 at the Teatro Lirico in Milan.
