A total of 14,256 passenger cars passed through the border checkpoint at the Ruse-Giurgiu Bridge in the direction of Romania from September 6 to 8, said border officials on Monday.
Due to the intense traffic, the queues of cars, which were formed before the checkpoint during the weekend, were several kilometres long. Car traffic on Monday was back to normal levels.
For the last 24 hours, a total of 1,875 trucks crossed the border in both directions. Of these, 864 were in-bound and 1,011 out-bound.
On July 10, Bulgaria started a major overhaul of the Bulgarian section of the 70-year-old Danube Bridge, which is why the traffic is carried out in only one lane and Border Police officers regulate the traffic in the reconstruction area.
