A total of 22 reinforced concrete panels were dismantled and 20 new panels were installed during the major repair works of the Danube bridge near Ruse between August 14 and 20, said the Road Infrastructure Agency on Wednesday.
Anti-corrosion protection was applied to the steel structure of the roadway, bolted dowels, reinforcement and formwork were installed, and the installation of cornice panels was continued, noted the agency. The upcoming schedule of the repair work includes the continuation of sandblasting and the application of anti-corrosion protection to the structure of the Bridge, the removal of old and installation of new reinforced concrete panels and bolted dowels, reinforcement and formwork to hold the new concrete panels.
On July 10, Bulgaria started a major overhaul of the Bulgarian section of the 70-year-old Ruse-Giurgiu Bridge. The repairs are being done without the road traffic to be stopped, so Border Police officers are regulating vehicles in the area of construction and installation activities, as the traffic of cars and trucks through the border crossing checkpoint is heavy during the summer months.
