site.btaMRF Calls for Meeting of Parliament's Presiding Body with Ministers over Wildfires

The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) will table a proposal for a meeting of Parliament's Presiding Body over the wildfires across the country, with the participation of the corresponding ministers. The meeting will be aimed at seeing what the State needs to fight fires, MRF Floor Leader Delyan Peevski told journalists Thursday. In his words, it should be seen whether the Council of Ministers needs to propose a correction in the budget for the purchase of helicopters and the allocation of resources for compensations in the affected areas.

"I think that yesterday [Wednesday], the government did its job: the Prime Minister, the Interior Minister, the Defence Minister, the people were working, but they do not have with what [to work]," Peevski commented. In his words, the situation is brutal when it comes to equipment; only old helicopters are available. He thanked Turkiye and Czechia for the assistance provided. As a European country, Bulgaria should be equipped for such natural disasters, he argued.

According to Peevski, the President is not doing his job and is not convening the Council on National Security.
