Varna University of Economics Rector Prof. Dr. Evgeni Stanimirov said Friday that higher education institutions should adopt a marketing approach when presenting their achievements in education and science. Stanimirov was speaking at the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media in Ukraine via video link.

In his words, the relationship between the media and higher education institutions is key, and an increasing number of universities are succeeding in presenting their achievements to the public.

Stanimirov said that it is vital to talk about education and science, adding that"as Aristotle put it, education is the best provision for old age".

"We, at Varna University of Economics, have a very clear entrepreneurial profile, and this is evident from our online and offline communication. We work very actively with businesses. We have developed an entrepreneurship accelerator," he said, adding that not only students of the university are involved in it but also foreign citizens. "This gets exposure in the media and our information channels," Stanimirov noted.

He said that he is proud of the fact that 56% of the lecturers at his university own businesses or provide consulting services. "We are pragmatic in the educational process. And it would be great if that was actually reflected in research," he added.

"I would like to thank BTA again for having extended a hand to so many Bulgarian universities a few years ago. We signed contracts. The stories that we want to get across to a target audience get easily published," Stanimirov said. He hoped that all educational institutions would produce news-worthy material through their actions.

BTA is organizing the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media in Odesa, Bolhrad, and Izmail, Ukraine, from June 18 to June 21, 2024. The event is taking place with the support of Aurubis Bulgaria, A1 Bulgaria, Glavbolgarstroy Holding AD, Euroins Insurance Group, Postbank, SOF Connect, and the 13 Centuries of Bulgaria National Endowment Fund.
