site.btaBulgarian Project at Venice Biennale Welcomes Journalists and Artists Ahead of Official Opening
The Bulgarian stand at the 60th edition of the Venice Art Biennale welcomed its first visitors on Wednesday. Until April 19 it can only be visited by accredited journalists and artists, and between April 20 and November 24 it will be open to visitors from all over the world.
Bulgaria presents the project The Neighbours by Lilia Topuzova, Krasimira Butseva and Julian Shehiryan and curator Vasil Vladimirov. The installation is positioned in the Sala Tiziano at the Centro Culturale Don Orione Artigianelli, near the Accademia Bridge in Venice, Italy.
The first visitors commented: "I liked it very much!", "It was interesting!" and "Congratulations to the team!".
The project is based on 20 years of research, working with various archives - State Security, Central Archives, personal archives, CIA archives, archives in England. It also includes interviews with direct witnesses who survived forced labour camps.
The project space represents a Bulgarian socialist home consisting of three rooms - living room, bedroom and kitchen. In the living room are the accounts of those who speak openly about their time in the camps in Belene and Lovech. In the bedroom - those who dared to share their story for the first time. And in the kitchen are only the sighs of those who did not have the opportunity to testify.
