site.btaPolice Detain 2 Illegal Migrants in Berkovitsa

Two illegal migrants with no IDs were detained by police while walking near the train station in Berkovitsa, the Interior Ministry's Regional Directorate in Montana said in a press release on Monday.

One of the migrants, a 45-year-old Moroccan national, is declared a wanted person on the Schengen Information System by the Italian authorities. He has been arrested and will be extradited. The other migrant identified himself as an 18-year-old Algerian.

The Algerian will be sent to a facility for temporary accommodation of foreign nationals and the Supplementary Information Request at the National Entries Bureau at the International Operational Cooperation Directorate of the Interior Ministry has been informed about the Moroccan.

The Interior Ministry's Regional Directorate in Montana told BTA that two groups of some 20 illegal migrants each from Middle Eastern countries were detained in the region in 2023.
