European Commission (EC) Deputy Chief Spokesperson Dana Spinant said that the EC learned from the news that Bulgarian political leaders are floating the names of two persons as possible EU commissioner designates. Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria proposed Daniel Lorer, while GERB-UDF's proposal is Iliana Ivanova.

Spinant said that by Wednesday noon, the EC had not received a formal notification from Bulgaria regarding the nomination. She recalled that the person, who best fits the requirements for the job set in the EU Treaty, will go through a process that includes an interview with the President of the EC.

The spokesperson could not share any details about the commissioner's portfolio, as this aspect of their job would be discussed at a later stage.

The rules for the election of a Commissioner also provide for an examination before committees of the European Parliament and appointment by the EU Council. According to Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel, it is difficult to predict whether the procedure will be completed this summer.
