A total of 1,621 European projects, financed with BGN 315 million-plus in grant aid, were implemented in Pazardzhik Region during the 2014-2020 programming period.

The news was broken by Regional Information Centre Manager Radoslav Peshalov at a local conference in Pazardzhik on Monday under the project "Europe in Bulgaria: A Common Future", which is implemented by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) with support from the European Commission.

The largest amount of grants were awarded to beneficiaries of Pazardzhik Municipality (nearly BGN 130 million for 717 contracts), followed by Velingrad (BGN 53 million) and Panagyurishte (BGN 35 million). Batak Municipality tops the list in funding per population: BGN 11,278. The largest amount of financing was absorbed under Operational Programme Innovation and Competitiveness: over BGN 95 million.

Citing examples of the way the EU funds have been used, Maria Stankova, who heads the Public Procurements and European Projects Department at the municipal administration, mentioned the repair of 12 streets, construction of sidewalks and irrigation systems.
