President Plevneliev: "We Must Be Able to Learn from the Wisdom of Each Religion"

Sofia, June 7 (BTA) - "We must be able to learn from the wisdom of each and every religion. Peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding and tolerance are values that should not be called into question," Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev said during a dinner with diplomats of the Middle East and North Africa, quoted by his Press Secretariat on Wednesday.

The Bulgarian head of State accepted an invitation by the doyen of the diplomatic corps in this country, the Ambassador of Palestine, Dr Ahmed Al Mathbouh, to join a solemn dinner marking the beginning of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.

"For centuries on end, various religions and nationalities have coexisted in Bulgaria. We have been braving the difficulties together, and we have been sharing our triumphs. Our country rightly takes pride in traditional understanding among the different communities," the President said in a greetings address to the diplomats. "There are numerous examples of Bulgarian citizens who, regardless of the faith they profess, have dealt together with the ordeals during natural disasters. Solidarity has no religion and ethnicity. It is the shortest cut to understanding," the head of State said.

The President and the members of the diplomatic corps exchanged best wishes on the occasion of Ramadan and stressed the significance of the tradition of the various religious communities in Bulgaria jointly celebrating their feasts.
