National Ombudsman Meets with PACE Co-rapporteurs for Post-monitoring Dialogue with Bulgaria

Sofia, June 10 (BTA) - National Ombudsman Maya Manolova on Thursday met with a representative delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) led by Frank Schwabe and Zsolt Nemeth, PACE co-rapporteurs for post-monitoring dialogue with Bulgaria. The two were on a two-day visit to Bulgaria, the National Ombudsman's press centre said.

Manolova acquainted the PACE co-rapporteurs with the key priorities in her institution's work and explained that the citizens' complaints and expectations have almost doubled since her coming into office. She listed the topics and priorities she is working on: children in conflict with the law; the institution's work as a national prevention mechanism; the fight against monopolies; arbitration; and the discontent of nearly 3 million Bulgarian nationals abroad over recent amendments to the Election Code affecting their voting rights.

Manolova proposed that the two PACE co-rapporteurs visit the Roma neighbourhood and the women's prison in Sliven (Southeastern Bulgaria).
