President of Sofia Appellate Court Finally Elected

Sofia, July 5 (BTA) - After five failed attempts that took two and a half years, the Judges College of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) Tuesday elected Daniela Doncheva President of the Sofia Appellate Court. So far, Vesselin Pengezov and Nelly Koutskova ran twice for the office. The incumbent interim head of the Court, Stefan Grozev, also joined the race.

Doncheva told the SJC that the average caseload at the Appellate Court is some 13 cases per judge monthly. A total of 6,859 cases reached the court in 2015, and 6,809 cases were disposed of.

So far Doncheva was Vice President of the Sofia Appellate Court and headed the Civil Division.

Nine members of the Judges College backed her nomination, and five voted against.

The SJC members discussed in detail Doncheva's accomplishments, stressing that she is an even-tempered, organized and hard-working person. Part of them, however, doubted Doncheva's capacity to be a leader.
