Close to 11 Kg of Heroin Seized at Border with Greece
Haskovo, Southeast Bulgaria, October 20 (BTA) - Two Bulgarian nationals have been detained while attempting to smuggle close to 11 kg of heroin from Greece into Bulgaria through the Kapitan Petko Voivoda border checkpoint, the Plovdiv Appellate Prosecution Office reported Thursday.
The drugs, valued at over 400,000 leva, were found during a check of a Bulgarian-registered car. The heroin was split into 20 packages, hidden in the car. The suspected trafficker was followed by another car, whose driver was also detained after documents belonging to the first suspect were found on him.
The Haskovo District Prosecution Office will ask the District Court to approve the search and seizures. The two suspects, who are in custody, will be charged with large scale drug trafficking.
