Parliament Sets Number of Non-working Days

Sofia, December 20 (BTA) - Voting conclusively changes to the Labour Code on Tuesday, Parliament decided that when a public holiday (with the exception of the Orthodox Easter) falls on a Saturday and/or a Sunday, the first one or two days thereafter will be non-working. The changes take effect from January 1 2017.

The MPs voted through the provisions adopted at first reading against which the employer organizations objected. Also, the Council of Ministers will be able to declare other days as non-working for public tribute on important historical, political, cultural and other significant events as well as celebrating certain professions.

Under separate changes, related to the posting of workers, MPs scrapped a requirement for the sides to agree the same minimum working conditions as those in the receiving country only in cases when the posting takes place for more than 30 days.

Labour disputes over working conditions for posted workers will fall within the jurisdiction of the court in the receiving country.
