A Two-Speed Europe Would Mean Liberal Policies Have Failed, Angel Dzhambazki MEP Says

Rousse, on the Danube, February 26 (BTA) - Bulgarian MEP Angel Dzhambazki said on Sunday that if Europe begins to develop at two different speeds, this would imply an admission that Liberal policies have failed.

On Thursday, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said the EU should make it easier for some member states to deepen their integration in some areas without the whole bloc following suit.

Dzhambazki, who co-chairs the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (IMRO), said: "We will not allow that to happen. A big clash is down the road in the European Parliament. We can oppose the idea by raising our questions as a group together with the other countries of Eastern Europe, as we have done before within the European Parliament."

IMRO Chairman Krassimir Karakachanov said that during the March 26 early parliamentary elections in Bulgaria the United Patriots Coalition will aspire to earn at least the same score as in last November's presidential elections, when he himself, as a candidate for president, placed third on about 15 per cent of the vote. If this happens, the United Patriots will get at least 40 seats in the 240-seat national parliament, Karakachanov predicted.

"This will be the factor that will establish a new type of policy in the political life of Bulgaria," he said. "The people want us to pool our efforts in order to solve the problems, they do not want to see confrontation, hatred, and incantations yet again."
