Platinum Lion 2015
Sofia, January 6 (BTA) - Between January 5 and 30, Bulgaria is
hosting Platinum Lion 2015, a joint Bulgarian-US training
operation involving also elements of the Romanian and Serbian
armed forces, the Bulgarian Defence Ministry said on Tuesday.
For the first time, the service persons will train in winter
conditions within the framework of the Black Sea Rotational
Force annual miltilateral training programme.
Platinum Lion 2015 is taking place in the Novo Selo Training
Area near Sliven (Southeastern Bulgaria). The military
engagement involves nearly 140 Bulgarian service persons of the
Vasil Levski National Military University, the Military Police
Service, the army bases in Mokren and Smolyan, as well as 250
service members of the United States Marine Corps, up to 40
service persons of the Serbian Land Forces and up to 25 military
of the Romanian Land Forces.
The objective is to refine skills to accomplish missions in a
multilateral environment, typical of present-day conflicts, as
well as to enhance the interoperability of the elements.
Platinum Lion 2015 is carried out in line with the Plan for
Joint Bulgarian-US training activities and exercises in Bulgaria
and abroad for 2015.
Exercise Platinum Lion is an annually-scheduled engagement
focused on enhancing regional stability and security through
multilateral training, including combat life saver, non-lethal
systems, fixed-site security and convoy operations. PK/LG
