Caretaker Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov held a working meeting with the ambassadors of the EU member states, organized by Hungary, as head of the rotating Presidency of the EU Council. Ilkov presented the main priorities in the work of the Ministry of the Interior, including preparation and holding of the upcoming early parliamentary elections, as well as border security, the fight against illegal migration and the fight against the trafficking of illegal migrants. Minister Ilkov expressed his expectation for the adoption of the Decision of the Council of the EU on the abolition of border control on the land borders of Bulgaria and Romania as soon as possible.

The Interior Minister also paid special attention to the close cooperation with Greece and Romania, including countering organized crime and illegal migration, as well as good cooperation with Austria.

For their part, the ambassadors of the member states expressed their gratitude for the detailed information provided. The ambassadors of Greece, Romania and Austria confirmed the excellent level of cooperation in the competent structures of the Ministry of the Interior. They expressed readiness to continue joint efforts and mutual support.

Minister Atanas Ilkov assured the ambassadors of the EU member states that the Ministry of the Interior will continue to work hard to ensure the security of the external borders of the EU for the benefit of the security of all European citizens.
