No Threat to Bulgaria amid Tensions in Middle East, Says Prime Minister Glavchev

There is no threat to Bulgaria, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev told reporters following a meeting of the Security Council with the Council of Ministers on the escalation of tensions in the Middle East.

"We discussed the measures to be taken in connection with the crisis in the Middle East," Glavchev explained.

Glavchev stressed that a taskforce will be organized to closely monitor the situation in the Middle East. Deputy Foreign Minister Elena Shekerletova will head the taskforce which will include representatives of all relevant ministries and services in order to monitor information hourly and make quick and adequate decisions, he explained.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, caretaker Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov said that since Tuesday night Bulgaria has taken all the necessary preventive measures. "We have enhanced our presence in relation to the Israeli Embassy and Israeli citizens who are on the territory of Bulgaria, and all those public events that have a similar emphasis, so as to guarantee the security and tranquility of both the participants in these events and the Bulgarian citizens," Ilkov explained.

Earlier, the press office of the President Rumen Radev said that a meeting of the  National Security Advisory Council will be held on Friday in connection with the conflicts in the Middle East 

On Tuesday night, Iran fired dozens of rockets at Israel in response to the killing of its allies - the leaders of the Lebanese group Hezbollah and the Palestinian Hamas, France Press reported. Nearly 200 ballistic missiles were fired into the heart of Israel, the New York Times reported.

He pointed out that there is a low level of threat and that at the moment no data has been received from the Bulgarian security services, from the Interior Ministry, or from foreign partner services that would indicate endangering of the security environment and endangering Bulgarian citizens.
