Bulgaria contributes to peace and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina by participating in the European Union's operations, caretaker Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov said here on Wednesday. Responding to a reporter who said that "the Bosnian counter-intelligence Wednesday implicated Bulgaria in sending terrorist threats against military facilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina", Zapryanov dismissed all of this as "insinuations and fake news”.

Zapryanov was speaking at a news conference at the Council of Ministers following a meeting of the Security Council over the escalation of tensions in the Middle East.

Citing Bosnian police earlier on Wednesday, the local media outlet Dnevni avaz wrote that Bosnia and Herzegovina's Armed Forces had raised its security alert level for weapons and ammunition storage facilities over threats originating from an IP address based in Bulgaria. Although the IP address is based in Bulgaria, this does not imply that the threat has come from that country, Dnevni avaz added. The alerts were received at around 3 p.m. local time on Tuesday, after which the State Investigation and Protection Agency sent a letter to police services and companies involved in weapons production, urging them to step up security measures because of possible attacks.
