Illegal Refinery for Diesel Fuel, Petroleum Products Uncovered near Letnitsa

Letnitsa, Northern Bulgaria, December 6 (BTA) -An illegal refinery for diesel fuel and petroleum products was uncovered near Letnitsa, Lovech District Prosecutor Valentin Vulkov said Sunday. The production took place in a building of a former farmyard owned by a natural person from Letnitsa.

Vulkov said that the refinery had around 100 tonnes of ready fuel at the time of the check, which found several tanks. The refinery is believed to have produced between 60 and 150 tonnes of fuel per month.

It is unclear where the raw products for the fuel's production came from.

No one has been detained yet. Pre-trial proceedings were launched for putting in operation an installation for the production and processing of petroleum products and diesel fuel without the required permit and licence, Vulkov said.

He expects that the investigation will lead to evidence of other crimes, most probably tax evasion.
