Teachers' Trade Union Urges Institutions to Take Measures against Aggression towards Teachers

Sofia, January 11 (BTA) - The Teachers' Trade Union with the Podkrepa Labour Confederation is shocked with the inaction of institutions after the series of recent school accidents where teachers were treated aggressively or even beaten by parents, the trade union says in a statement.

Media recently reported of several incidents in which angry parents have assaulted the teachers over the way they have treated their children.

The statement says that the inaction of the institutions strengthens the public perception of living in a country where the laws are flagrantly violated and where teachers can be verbally and physically humiliated.

The statement further says that the new school education law does not have a mechanism for protection of teachers against parental misconduct. Just the opposite, parental influence over principals and teachers increases, via the future public councils, the statement notes.

The trade union is also concerned with the fact that after recent cases of rather brutal attitude towards teachers, the relevant ministries have done nothing in respect of prevention and in respect of access regulations in schools, which the trade union argues should not allow external people, including parents.
