Ataka Wants Blockades of Bulgarian-Greek Border Referred to European Court of Justice

Sofia, February 29 (BTA) - Meeting with President Rosen Plevneliev as part of his political consultations, Ataka MP Magdalena Tasheva said her party wants the European Court of Justice (ECJ) to be apprised of the blockades of the Bulgarian-Greek border by Greek farmers after the losses sustained by Bulgarian hauliers and producers are calculated.

During his annual political consultations, Plevneliev meets with the parliamentary forces to discuss their priorities.

This blackmail must be ended and the only way to do this is to refer the matter to the ECJ, which was established to ensure the application of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, and the blockades violate two of the four fundamental freedoms of the EU - the free movement of people and goods, said Tasheva.

Ataka asked the President to wield his influence and press the government for an explanation for the delayed construction and the increase in the price of the fence along the Bulgarian-Turkish border. Tasheva claimed the price and construction period had increased fourfold. The delay and the appreciation are sabotaging national security, she said, adding that Bulgaria was the only country to have commissioned private companies to build a border wall which only the army can build.

Yavor Notev MP said Ataka also told Plevneliev their views on judicial reform, its problems and their solutions. The constitutional amendments should continue by changing the legislation on the judiciary. If a problem is to be solved, it must be clearly defined and specific steps and deadlines must be planned, which was so far missing in the judicial reform, according to Ataka.
