PM Borissov Talks with Princess Dana Firas of Jordan, WTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai

Sofia, November 28 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov Monday met with UN World Tourism Organization Secreta,ry-General Taleb Rifai and with Princess Dana Firas of Jordan, the government information service said.

Princess Dana Firas is President of the Petra National Trust, Jordan's oldest NGO dedicated to the preservation and protection of the World Heritage Site of Petra.

The two are in Sofia for the World Congress on Creative Tourism and Ancient Civilizations.

Borissov said: "2016 has been a peak year for Bulgaria's tourism industry, which is largely due to the fact that the government designated it a national priority." He stressed that being a country with a millennial history and a heritage of ancient civilizations, Bulgaria has seen unique archaeological finds and many historical monuments have been registered, including seven properties inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Borissov noted the efforts made in the last few years for the restoration and conservation of sites in Bulgaria, which open up opportunities for the development of cultural tourism at the local, regional and national level, turning it into an economic factor.
