DSB, Civil Board, Civil Organizations Announce New Platform

Sofia, January 25 (BTA) - An independent Deputy Prosecutor General in charge of fighting corruption who should start working immediately on high-profile cases and the performance of agencies and institutions involved is one of the first measures featuring in the New Republic platform, publicized on Wednesday by representatives of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, the Civil Board and representatives of civil organizations.

"Today we present a clear platform of ideas and not affiliated to any parties. On this basis, we are launching contacts with party and non-governmental organizations and separate persons. So, you can expect a new political alliance already next week," Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) leader Radan Kanev said. A proposal was made for running on a single ticket with the Yes Bulgaria Movement at the upcoming early general elections.

Kanev dismissed the possibility to form a coalition in the Reformist Bloc format. "We are an alternative to GERB and a guarantee against a coalition between GERB and the Bulgarian Socialist Party," said Kanev. He also stressed that they will not allow a coalition with BSP and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms. "Our participation in the Government depends on people's confidence. There will be no bargaining and coalitions," he noted.

Traicho Traikov explained that the platform is based on an educated nation, strong institutions, supremacy of the law and a fight against corruption as well as a small administration not affiliated to any political party.

Martin Dimitrov said that Bulgaria needs a right-of-centre alternative more than ever. He presented the proposals for a new economy based on low taxes, freedom for the small and family business, clear rules and a predictable environment, strong and independent regulatory bodies against cartels and monopolies.

The platform envisages an immediate increase of teachers' and university lecturers' salaries by 20 per cent, a policy in the interest of the Bulgarian families and overcoming of the demographic crisis, a social policy, oriented towards the disadvantaged, protection of the environment, etc.
