Taraclia State University is organizing a Roma Week from April 2 to 8, the university said on Wednesday.

On the occasion of International Roma Day, which is celebrated on April 8, the university library opened a book exhibition under the title Romani World: Traditions and Modernity. The exhibition introduces visitors to the rich cultural heritage of the Roma people, their portrayal in literature, as well as ethnographic and scientific research dedicated to the language, folklore and customs.

Ivan Chebotar, Municipal Mediator at the City Hall and Chair of the Roma community in Taraclia District, commented on the problems of the Romani people in Taraclia. He noted that 44 families, or over 218 people, of Roma ethnicity live in the town of Taraclia and more than 1,000 Roma people live in Taraclia District.
