On the eve of Bulgaria’s national day, the Governors of Ohio and Indiana, Mike DeWine and Mike Braun, proclaimed March 3, 2025, as Bulgarian Liberation Day in their states, the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Chicago said on Facebook on Monday.

The proclamations recognize the role Bulgarian schools, churches, and cultural organizations have played in preserving Bulgarian heritage, language, and traditions since the early 20th century. They also acknowledge the contributions of the Bulgarian community to the development of both states, the Consulate General added.

On the occasion of March 3, Bulgarians gathered for a flag-raising ceremony at Chicago's Daley Plaza, and Willis Tower, the city’s tallest building, was lit up in the colours of the Bulgarian flag.

March 3, 2025, was also declared Republic of Bulgaria National Day in Washington D.C. by Mayor Muriel Bowser in honour of Bulgaria's contributions to world culture and history, the Bulgarian Embassy in the United States said on Facebook. The proclamation highlights Bulgaria's role in world's advancement "through its rich history, traditions and culture, including its role in developing the Cyrillic alphabet". The document also acknowledges "the invaluable contributions of Bulgarian Americans, whose talents and traditions greatly enrich the cultural fabric of our city and the nation".
