The Border Police said on Tuesday that the border police vessel Obzor took part in an operation to rescue two foreigners at the Black Sea.
On Sunday at 20:45 hrs, an alert was received via the 112 emergency number for a boat in distress with two persons on board about 13 nautical miles east of Maslen Cape. The border police vessel Obzor was dispatched to the scene.
There was also a fishing vessel in the area.
Approximately 12 nautical miles east off the shore, the two vessels located a rubber boat with a man and a woman on board.
From the initial interview, the border guards identified them as a Ukrainian national and a Turkish national.
On checking the persons' data against the information systems, the border guards established that the Ukrainian national was banned from entering or staying on the territory of Schengen and the ban originated from Greece.
The two foreign nationals were detained. Following a report to the Regional Prosecutor's Office, pretrial proceedings were launched.
