The Bulgarian Cultural Institute (BCI) at the Embassy of Bulgaria in Warsaw held the first-ever Bulgarian-Polish creative meeting, showcasing works by Bulgarian artists living in Poland and Polish artists connected to Bulgaria, BCI told the Bulgarian News Agency on Monday.
The exhibition was opened at the BCI Gallery by Bulgarian Ambassador to Poland Margarita Ganeva, who spoke about the collaboration between the two countries in the field of art and artistic activities, achievements in this area, and future plans.
The event was preceded by a vernissage, during which the works and their authors were presented – Ivayla Zhivkova-Roshak, Joanna Lon-Zajonc, Katharina Ortwein, Tseno Todorov, Elina Toneva, Rusana Aleksandrova-Novakovska, and Mladen Karavelov. They shared insights into their work and their connections with both countries – Bulgaria and Poland.
The exhibition includes some 100 works, including paintings, graphics, ceramics, and artistic textiles, divided into thematic cycles. In the paintings, special attention is given to icons and artworks with religious themes.
The graphic art, covering an entire wall of the gallery, features views of historic cities and architectural landmarks in Bulgaria.
The displayed ceramics include cups, bowls, plates, egg holders, and other everyday items. Also featured are table or shelf decorations and wall decorations in the form of masks mounted on wooden bases.
The large textile exhibition also draws attention, BCI said. The textiles vary in size, from small square rugs, slightly larger than typewritten pages, to medium sized and large ones. The largest, approximately 3 meters long, is displayed on a wall from ceiling to floor. It features geometric motifs inspired by Bulgarian art and folk traditions. The wall decorations take the form of square wooden panels with compositions of various-sized circles – beads and other ceramic details.
