The transformed Taraclia State University, now a branch of the Angel Kanchev University of Ruse, has attracted strong interest, with 260 newly admitted students, including Bessarabian Bulgarians from Ukraine, the press service of the Bulgarian President reported Saturday.
Vice President Iliana Iotova is paying a working visit to Taraclia, Moldova, on September 19 and 20.
Honorary Rector of Ruse University Academician Hristo Beloev thanked Vice President Iliana Iotova for her engagement in the transformation process, noting that her 2017 visit to Taraclia and meetings with Moldovan authorities helped advance the initiative.
Iotova highlighted the region’s demographic challenges and said the new branch will provide young people with opportunities to study in various fields, obtain a European diploma, and remain in their homeland. She added that the branch could serve as a cultural institute showcasing Bulgaria and promoting Bulgarian language, culture and art.
The Vice President assured the leadership of Ruse University and its Taraclia branch that the presidential institution’s support will continue.
The University of Ruse's branch in Taraclia was officially opened on 24 May 2025. In 2024, Moldovan authorities approved the transformation of the Grigoriy Tsamblak State University into a branch of the University of Ruse, which was successfully registered under Moldovan legislation on 2 April 2025.
