Johann Strauss II's first operetta Indigo and the Forty Thieves will be staged for the first time in Bulgaria in Sofia's Bulgaria Concert Hall on Thursday night, the Sofia Philharmonic reported. Soloists Andrea Chudak, Imola Lidia Mate, Theo Ruster, Laurence Kalaidjian, Alexander Voigt, Timo Roessner, and the orchestra will perform under the baton of Dario Salvi.
The organizers said: "You will immerse yourself in the fairy-tale world of One Thousand and One Nights, where oriental magic and Viennese waltzes intertwine in a dazzling musical extravaganza."
The operetta Indigo and the Forty Thieves is Strauss II's first theatrical endeavour. It debuted in 1871 on the stage of the Theater an der Wien. Although met with some irony by critics, the audience gave it a warm welcome.
