The world-renowned choir The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices will take to the stage of the iconic Olympia Hall in Paris on September 27, producer Boyana Bunkova told BTA.

The invitation came from a French promoter. This will mark the ensemble’s second appearance at one of the world’s most prestigious concert venues. Their first performance there dates back to the 1990s, according to the choir.

This time, the evening will open with a performance by Tavagna – a male a cappella group from Corsica, named after the microregion where its members originate.

The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices will present its programme titled “Voices and Strings”, accompanied by composer and conductor Georgi Andreev and the Quarto chamber ensemble. Premiered in 2023, the project features previously unreleased songs composed especially for the choir and string quartet by Maestro Georgi Andreev, alongside signature pieces from the choir’s repertoire such as “Ergen Deda”, “Kalugerine”, “Svatba”, and “Listni se, Goro”.

“Georgi Andreev is one of the most accomplished and versatile contemporary Bulgarian composers. His talent for seamlessly blending classical choral and orchestral music with traditional rhythms and folk styles makes him the perfect partner for The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices,” reads the French concert description. Quarto is described as “one of Bulgaria’s most esteemed ensembles for classical and contemporary chamber music, winner of numerous international and national awards, recognized for its rare ability to interpret music from any era or genre with flawless precision.”

Before their Olympia performance, the choir will perform in Dublin’s National Concert Hall. This summer alone, the ensemble has sung in Slovakia, Portugal, Italy, France, and Belgium, with upcoming concerts planned in Portugal and Romania before the end of the year.
