Moldova's Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations (IGSU)  has heat relief point in the centre of Bulgarian-populated city of Taraclia. It was prompted by the issue of an alert for extremely hot weather by the State Hydrometeorological Service earlier in the week. The warning will be in force for the entire territory of the country until July 16, 2024. During this period, the maximum daytime temperatures are expected to reach 39C.

The heat-relief tent will offer shelter from the scorching sun and water. Similar points have opened in other regions of Moldova.

"I haven't seen such heat in a long time, it's very hard to breathe. I went out to the store to buy food and I felt I would faint, as if my heart would burst. I had to stay at home, but there is no one to help me”, said an elderly resident of Taraclia.
