Realizing the importance of preserving the memory of the beating of Stefan Karadzha (a Bulgarian national hero and freedom fighter) in Tulcea, the Bulgarian Embassy in Bucharest proposed to the Romanian side and reached an agreement with the municipal authorities to place a bust-monument of Stefan Karadzha in a suitable place in the city center, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel said during question time in Parliament.

It was agreed to renovate the plaque of the bust monument of Georgi Rakovski in Tulcea, as well as the restoration of the Bulgarian St. George church. Similar activities are planned elsewhere in Romania, Gabriel added. She responded to a question about Stefan Karadzha's house in Tulcea. Vazrazhdane MPs Veselin Veshev and Angel Georgiev said that the house was demolished in 2023. Gabriel responded by noting that the Foreign Ministry does not have the legal or financial capacity to purchase or maintain properties like the house in question.

The acquisition of properties outside the country by the Bulgarian State is done by the Council of Ministers. Despite the lack of a legal framework, our embassies abroad are making efforts, within their means, to preserve places and sites related to Bulgarian history, she explained.

The Government will implement what is set out in the 2023 State Budget Act, with a larger number of projects - eight instead of two, Gabriel said when asked about unpaid funds for the Taraclia region of Moldova from the 2023 budget. Among the projects are the purchase of three school buses, which will improve access to educational facilities for 450 children. A building of the Taraclia State University will be renovated as well, she added.

A priority for the Civil Society Development Council is to create a strategy to support the development of civil society organisations in Bulgaria. The development of a financial mechanism to support socially significant projects of non-profit legal entities for public benefit is of key importance, Gabriel told the MPs.
