site.btaBSP - United Left Leading Candidate in Vratsa: Bulgarian Energy Sector Must Be Freed from Populism
"Bulgarian energy must be freed from populism. It is time for solutions!", said Andrey Valchev,top-of-the-list candidate of the BSP - United Left coalition in Vratsa region, in a position he sent to BTA on Saturday.
In his words, the coalition is firmly committed to the preservation and strategic development of Bulgaria's nuclear energy sector as a basis for the country's energy security. That means firstly continued investment in the modernization and expansion of Kozloduy NPP, which is an alternative priority guaranteeing the stability and security of the Bulgarian state.
"It is high time that Bulgarian politicians realize that without investments, first of all in people, it is impossible to develop nuclear energy in Bulgaria. In order to have four working nuclear units in 20 years, it is necessary to invest immediately in the next engineers, operators, welders. Everything else is political propaganda," he said.
"Bulgaria needs basic capacities in the energy sector. This means: development of nuclear energy; efficient use of water resources; construction of new capacities, including implementation of a flow hydroelectric power plant on the Danube River, jointly with Romania; ensuring security of gas supplies; expansion of the Chiren gas storage facility and development of the gas transmission and distribution network. The coalition is committed to protecting the coal region, and to banning the construction of photovoltaic plants on fertile agricultural land," he added.
