Romania must quickly find efficient solutions to the problems of hybrid warfare, disinformation, security and cyber crime, interim President Ilie Bolojan urged at a summit on digital innovation in Bucharest, according to a press release sent to BTA's office. According to him, technology and digital environment managed by artificial intelligence are becoming essential components of any public or private, civil or military project.
He believes that protection of critical infrastructure is an area that should be given particular emphasis.
"The war being waged by the Russian Federation in Ukraine is taking place clearly, in cyberspace, on energy infrastructure, and I am glad that Romania has acted quickly by amending the legislative framework to require and oblige critical infrastructures to include in their security plans measures to protect against cyber attacks and threats. No security or sustainability plan can be adopted without appropriate cyber protection measures. I welcome the Department of Energy's initiative to establish the first sectoral Cyber Security Incident Response Center by the end of April," the acting President added.
According to Bolojan, the strategy to support Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova is closely linked to the vision of providing cybersecurity for critical infrastructures. “I note the growing importance of cyber diplomacy to coordinate with partners and allies to establish common regulatory programs and information-sharing standards that will enhance resilience to cyber attacks, to strengthen the fight against disinformation, and to investigate and bring to justice those responsible,” Bolojan added.
Last but not least, he noted that it is equally important for the political environment to address the challenges and regain public trust through work and clear solutions.
