site.btaLecturer and Translator Lora Nenkovska Presented with Romania's Order of Cultural Merit for Promoting Romanian Culture in Bulgaria


Bulgarian translator and Romanian language lecturer Lora Nenkovska Tuesday was presented with Romania’s Order of Cultural Merit in the rank of Officer in recognition of her active role in promoting Romanian culture and language in Bulgaria and strengthening cultural ties between the two countries. Nenkovska received the honour from Romania’s Ambassador to Bulgaria, Brandusa Predescu, during a ceremony held at the Romanian Embassy in Sofia.
The Order, granted in Category F – Promoting Culture, was conferred on Nenkovska by a decree issued in November 2024 by then-President Klaus Iohannis.
Tuesday’s ceremony was attended by students from the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, faculty members, writers, scholars, and officials.
Nenkovska is a lecturer in the Department of General, Indo-European and Balkan Linguistics at Sofia University’s Faculty of Slavic Studies. She teaches in the Balkan Studies and Romanian Philology programmes. With dozens of translated works under her belt, Nenkovska is considered one of the most active translators promoting Romanian culture in Bulgaria.
