Bulgaria will build six new reservoirs for irrigation, Agriculture Minister Georgi Tahov said here Tuesday. "To develop the irrigation infrastructure in Bulgaria, we plan to build six new reservoirs," he said at the start of a national campaign for promoting locally produced food held on the initiative of Standard Weekly.

He said that irrigation for agriculture remains a priority for his team.

Funding from the Rural Development Progamme 2014-2020 will pay for renovation of 24 irrigation facilities. 

"Our long-term goal is to increase the areas with irrigation by over 300,000 ha," said the Minister.

He also said that progress has been made towards construction of 20 launching pads for hail suppression rockets and building permits have been obtained for 14 of them.
