Rositsa Kirova, the Head of the Bulgarian Delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, presented the Bulgarian position in the General Debate of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent. The theme of the 150th anniversary edition is parliamentary action for social development and justice, Kirova's press office said on Tuesday.

Kirova stressed that a top priority for Bulgaria is free access to quality education for children of all ages.  "As parliamentarians, we all have the conviction that there is a need for comprehensive social protection systems that leave no one behind," the head of the Bulgarian delegation said during the general debate.

"What better way to combat gender inequality, poverty and social injustice than to give our children a good education and opportunities to lead their lives as global citizens - aware, well-educated, responsible and respected with concern for our planet and all humanity," she added.

The debate was attended by 44 sitting Speakers of Parliaments, the Presidents of the Arab Parliament, the Parliament for Latin America and the Caribbean (Parlatino) and the East African Legislative Assembly, as well as 82 members of national parliaments, members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and representatives of associated parliamentary organizations.
