Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov represented Bulgaria at the 17th meeting of foreign ministers, the Dubrovnik Forum 2024, held on June 28 and 29 in Croatia, the Foreign Ministry reported on Monday. The event was attended by representatives of over 28 countries and international organizations, academia, media and business. This year's forum was held under the slogan "Dire straits and safe passages".

The discussions focused on building a new vision of cooperation between the West and the Global South. This year's Dubrovnik Forum provided a platform for an open exchange of views and practical ideas promoting this vision between North and South, East and West. Other highlights were the transatlantic community, the future of Europe and the place of the Western Balkans in it.

Deputy Minister Kondov participated in the exchange of views within the Leadership Panel  "Connecting the Dots: Reliable Supply Chains and Maritime Security". The panel highlighted the contribution of Bulgaria, Romania and Turkiye to the sustainability and reliability of supply chains, and Bulgaria's success in achieving diversification of natural gas supplies and overcoming dependence on Russian sources.

Kondov also held a number of bilateral meetings. At the meeting with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia, Gordan Grlic Radman, he focused on the opportunities for deepening the cooperation between the two countries and upgrading the operational contacts between the two ministries.

The current political developments in the Western Balkan countries were discussed during a brief meeting with the High Representative of the international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt.

Kondov also met with Japan's Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoichi Fukazawa. They talked about global challenges, including the war in Ukraine and the escalation of tensions in the Indo-Pacific region.
