European Union’s Foreign Ministers Hold Informal Meeting

Deputy Foreign Minister Elena Shekerletova attended an informal meeting of ministers for European affairs of the European Union member states in Warsaw, said the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.

The main purpose of the forum was an initial exchange of views on the future EU Multiannual Financial Framework (2028-2034). The topic was discussed in the context of old and new challenges requiring comprehensive solutions. Bulgaria highlighted the Cohesion Policy, the Common Agricultural Policy and effective border management as key priorities for the future multiannual budget. In view of the changed global political environment, Bulgaria also underlined the need to strengthen cooperation in the field of defence and security at EU level.

The ministers also exchanged views on hybrid threats and countering options. The meeting also discussed ways to strengthen Europe's civil and military preparedness and readiness, with a focus on the role of civil society in building EU preparedness and resilience.

Deputy Minister Shekerletova held a bilateral meeting with Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov. The important role of the large Bulgarian community in Moldova in the development of bilateral relations was underlined and Bulgaria's support for Moldova's European integration was expressed. Deputy Minister Shekerletova expressed confidence that the principles and values of the European Union will contribute to further deepening the cooperation between the two countries and will strengthen the role of the Bulgarian community in Moldovan society. Elena Shekerletova also met with Spain's Secretary of State for European Affairs Fernando Sampedro, with whom she discussed issues on the EU agenda.
