On Wednesday, the National Assembly will hold a debate and vote on second-reading the bill on providing financial support to household end customers of electricity, tabled by MPs Pavela Mitova (There Is Such a People), Delyan Dobrev (GERB-UDF), Dragomir Stoynev (Bulgarian Socialist Party – United Left), and Ramadan Atalay (Movement for Rights and Freedoms) on February 12.

The bill, which aims to provide financial assistance to household end customers affected by power outages during the past Christmas and New Year holidays, was unanimously approved on first reading with 200 votes in favour on February 13.

Between December 21 and 24, 2024, the average number of affected localities was 31, with approximately 4,658 consumers left without electricity. A significant increase was observed between December 25 and 27, when the average number of affected localities rose to 280, and customers without electricity reached 42,350. By December 28, there were still 209 localities and 19,745 customers without power.

Lawmakers are also expected to hold a first-reading debate on proposed amendments to the Accountancy Act later on Wednesday.
