Stanimira Petrova advanced to the quarterfinals in the women's 54 kg category at the Olympic boxing tournament in Paris. The top-seeded Bulgarian boxer triumphed over reigning world champion Huang Hsiao-Wen of Taiwan, with a 4:1 score in judges' votes.

In her third Olympic Games appearance, Petrova secured her first victory, positioning herself one win away from clinching at least a bronze medal. In an evenly contested match, Petrova delivered a critical right straight just 11 seconds before the end of the final round. She secured a victory after receiving unanimous approval from the judges.

Bulgarian Olympic Committee President Stefka Kostadinova was the first to congratulate Petrova on her success.
