Bulgarian judoka Mark Hristov won in his Olympic debut on Monday, defeating Aden-Alexandre Houssein of Djibouti in the first round of the U73 kg category in Paris.

The 24-year-old Hristov secured victory 48 seconds before the end of the match after his opponent, a naturalized Frenchman, received three "shido" penalties.

In the round of 16, the Bulgarian judoka was defeated by waza-ari against the 2017 world champion and a five-time world championship medallist Soichi Hashimoto of Japan.

Hashimoto secured an initial one-point advantage following a successful attack and maintained this lead until the end.
